Accessory Dwelling Unit Permitting  December 26, 2019

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) can be developed in residential areas where single-family homes are permitted. An ADU is an interior, attached, or detached residential structure used in connection with or that is accessory to a single-family home. One ADU is permitted per residential lot, must comply with City building codes and can be 1,000 s.f. in size or 75% of the size of the single-family home on a lot, whichever is less. The exterior trim, finish, and design of the ADU are to be similar to that of the single-family home. Water and sewer facilities that serve the single-family home would also serve the ADU. Yurts, RV’s and Park models don’t qualify as ADUs.

The  City of Coos Bay Community Development Department can be reached at 541-269-1181 can answer your ADU questions and take you through ADU permitting process.
