Clean Water Demonstration Testing Continues at Treatment Plant September 12, 2018

The new Wastewater Treatment Plant No 2, located on the northeast corner of Fulton Avenue and Empire Boulevard, has made a lot of progress in the last few months. The project overall is now 87% complete with all structures and essential equipment in place.

The project started Clean Water Demonstration Testing on September 10, 2018, which is a major milestone for the project. A series of tests will be performed over the next 30 days to simulate various failure conditions along with high and low flows to check that all controls and equipment respond correctly. This process tests all the equipment and is a very important step prior to accepting and treating sewage. Only after all systems have been verified to work as designed will the water be drained from the system and raw sewage be introduced.

It is anticipated that the plant will start accepting and treating sewage in October 2018 with a completion date of January 2018. The contractor and the City’s wastewater operations crew will salvage parts of the old plant for reuse and plan to demolish the old plant in December. The final punch list items will be complete in January 2019.

Please mark your calendars for the ribbon cutting on October 3 at 4 p.m.
