Completion of Emergency Storm Line Reconstruction Near Intersection February 14, 2018

Project at Newmark Avenue and Ocean Boulevard

In the middle of December, the City of Coos Bay authorized Benny Hempstead Excavating, Inc. to perform an emergency storm sewer line replacement project near the intersection of Newmark Ave. and Ocean Blvd. (Near the Nancy Devereux Center). It was determined that a portion of the storm drain was deficient and was beyond its useful life. The project replaced over 200 feet of 36” storm drain pipe and three manholes. The contractor finished the paving last week to bring the project site back to the original conditions prior to this emergency.

The pipe conveys stormwater from the surrounding areas of Newmark Ave. and Ocean Blvd. With the completion of this project, it is anticipated that the replaced portion will extend the pipe life approximately 40-60 years.
