Cow Creek Indian Awards Funds for Nozzles November 27, 2018

The Coos Bay Fire Department staff recently received a $1,600 grant from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation that was utilized to update some of the Department's nozzles. The Department uses firefighting hose nozzles to adjust the stream of water. These adjustable nozzles are a versatile tool, but in some cases, it is more effective to use a smooth-bore nozzle or straight stream of water to penetrate deeper into a building to the seat of the fire.
These smooth-bore nozzles spray more water at lower pressures. This creates less nozzle reaction and allows the firefighters to move the hose more easily. By being able to apply more water at lower pressures and move the hose more easily this also reduces firefighter fatigue and increases safety for our firefighters.
Fire Department staff purchased four new smooth-bore nozzles to equip each of our four fire engines. The Department will continue to carry and utilize combination nozzles as well. This gives firefighters the ability to select the correct nozzle for the type of fire they are fighting.
Coos Bay Firefighters wish to thank the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation for their generous donation!
