Crews Extinguish House Fire in Englewood District April 11, 2019
On April 9, 2019, at 11:12 pm, Coos Bay Fire Department received reports of a heavily involved structure fire in the Englewood District of Coos Bay. Initial reports to the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center reported that there was a large amount of fire on the front of the structure, but all occupants were evacuated. The first arriving crews were on scene in just over six minutes from the initial call to 1355 Washington Ave. They found heavy fire involvement on the front porch of the structure and it had spread to a nearby travel trailer. Fire crews were able to quickly knock down most of the fire; but due to multiple additions and remodels, the fire was not completely under control for roughly 20 minutes. To fully extinguish the fire, crews had to breach through multiple layers of ceiling material to ensure full extinguishment.
After the fire was extinguished, a fire investigation was conducted by Coos Bay Fire Department personnel. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined, but the fire is considered accidental in nature. Damage to the structure is estimated at $50,000 and the property was not insured. Crews were on scene for just under three hours for the fire suppression efforts and investigation. Coos Bay Fire Department was assisted on scene by Coos Bay Police Department and Pacific Power.
