Invasive Species Overruns Mingus Park Pond October 27, 2021

The City of Coos Bay has seen an increase of an invasive species of an aquatic plant called Parrots Feather in the Mingus Park pond. This invasive species was introduced to the pond by an unknown source and has overrun the pond. If left to continue to spread, it will cause numerous ecological problems, including the displacement of native plant species. Not only will local plant species suffer, there will be negative impacts on animals that depend on native vegetation as a food source and other things.

Through research of this invasive species and consultation with local aquatic landscapers, the City has purchased and is in the process of installing two aeration fountains. The City is moving forward with plans to remove this invasive species from the pond.
