Mayor’s Proclamation for Zonta’s Anniversary November 06, 2019

November 8, 2019, is designated as the Centennial Anniversary of Zonta International Day. The City of Coos Bay encourages all citizens to join the Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area in celebration and attend, as their guest, a free movie event at the historic Egyptian Theatre, showing the Academy Award film short, “Period. End of Sentence” on November 8, 2019, with the doors opening at 5:30 pm and the program beginning at 6 pm.

Zonta International is a global service organization of 29,000 members in 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 63 countries and geographical areas around the world.  

They have advocated for women and children worldwide through affiliation with the United Nations since 1969 holding general consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and participatory status with the Council of Europe. The Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area, having been in continuous existence since 1953, is a member of Zonta International, District 8. The Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area through their service, advocacy, and fundraising has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to women, school supplies to local children and community grants to local non-profits serving women and families.
