National Book Gifting Program Helps Literacy Skills January 10, 2019
Coos Bay Public Library offers the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free books to children from birth to age five in participating communities within the United States, Take a look at this recent study. A study recently published in Reading Psychology, funded in part by one of our affiliates, United Way of Erie County, Pennsylvania (USA), was recently conducted and published to a professional journal.
The results of the study found an average of 15% increase in Letter Identification tasks for children enrolled in the Imagination Library.
Children enrolled in the Imagination Library performed around 25% better on composite variables of early literacy skills and strategies (i.e., text and illustration orientation).
Children enrolled in the Imagination Library performed around 19% better on word and letter concepts within text than those who did not participate in the program
