The Coos Bay Fire Department has recently seen an influx of eager new volunteer firefighters. Because of this, the Department has started an “Entry Level” Firefighters Academy. Entry Level is the basic skill level that allows firefighters to enter into a burning building with a partner to extinguish a fire and search for potential victims inside.
Over the next few months, these volunteers will have put in over a hundred hours of training to get to this level. Of course this is a major time investment in to our community. While the on-duty career staff typically take care of the day-to-day operations and emergency response, the Fire Department relies heavily on their volunteers. Fire Department volunteers assist with structure fires and numerous community activities throughout the year, such as Fourth of July fireworks, Christmas tree pickup, and Ocean Boulevard trash pickup to name a few.
If you would like to become a volunteer firefighter, please visit our website at: http://coosbay.org/departments/fire-department to obtain a volunteer application or contact the Fire Station at 541-269-1191. |
