Revamp Plans for Two Popular Boat Ramps May 28, 2020

PHOTO-Empire Boat Ramp is starting to show its age.

The City of Coos Bay's Empire Boat Ramp/Dock Facility is a heavily used boat ramp, by both local residents and visitors from across the state. Unfortunately, five of the eight float docks on the south side of Empire Boat Ramp were showing signs of failure. The City is working with the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) on the design of replacement floats.

The Urban Renewal Agency has authorized the expenditure of up to $140,000 to replace some of the floats this summer. Over the next year, the City will seek grants from OSMB  to help fund the cost of replacing additional floats at the Empire ramp as well as floats at the Eastside boat ramp. Both of these aged facilities are used for a wide range of recreational activities such as boat launch, fishing, and crabbing, and are in need of replacements floats to ensure safety and stability.
