Well Wishes to Long Time Firefighter June 03, 2021

After nearly 16 years serving the citizens of Coos Bay, Firefighter/Engineer Ben Rolicheck has accepted a position as a Lieutenant with Estacada Rural Fire District No. 69, near Portland.

Rolicheck came to the Coos Bay area in 2004 from California to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College and pursue a Fire Science Degree and career in the fire service. After a year of volunteering for North Bend Fire Department, Rolicheck became a Student Firefighter with Coos Bay in September 2005. In 2007, Rolicheck completed the Student Program and transitioned into being a traditional Volunteer Firefighter for Coos Bay Fire Department. Rolicheck remained a very active Volunteer Firefighter with Coos Bay Fire Department while working full time at Bay Cities Ambulance as a Lead Paramedic until he was hired as a Career Firefighter with Coos Bay Fire Department in April 2013.

In his time with Coos Bay Fire Department, Rolicheck has served in many different capacities within the Department. As a Volunteer Firefighter Rolicheck served on the Coos Bay Volunteer Firefighters Association Executive Board; holding the positions of Secretary, Vice President, and President. During his time as a career firefighter, he served as the union Secretary, Vice President, and most recently President of the Coos Bay Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2935. Rolicheck was recognized as Coos Bay Fire Department Firefighter of the year in 2009 and received an Outstanding Service Award in 2015.
Along with his many fire service-related certifications, Rolicheck has also been a Nationally Certified Paramedic since 2010. He has associate of applied science degrees in both Fire Science and Paramedicine as well as bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration. Major projects that Rolicheck has helped coordinate over the years include Emergency Medical Response, Juvenile Fire Setter Program, Student Firefighter Program, and most recently our Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team. He was also instrumental in working on many different grants throughout years helping bring in over $100,000 in grant funds to upgrade emergency response equipment.

All of us at Coos Bay Fire Department wish Ben Rolicheck the best in his future endeavors and we can attest that Estacada is getting an employee that will greatly contribute to their team.
